an adjunct (R2)
at the Department of Soil Science and Environmental Analyses
Name and description of the position in accordance with the European classification:
Recognised Researcher (R2) scientist with a doctoral degree The profile applies to persons who are not fully independent researchers.
Scope of research work
- conducting scientific research mainly in the field of soil hazard modelling, soil condition, function and properties, soil quality/health assessment, publishing scientific articles,
- preparing applications for research funding at both national and European level,
- preparing and managing soil databases, health analyses, hazards and ecosystem services, including climate change and land use scenarios,
- performing various tasks related to the functioning of research units may be assigned as part of the duties.
Requirements for candidates
Essential requirements:
- PhD in agriculture, earth sciences or related fields,
- documented scientific achievements in line with the requirements of IUNG-PIB for the position of adjunct.
- preparation and submission of a formally correct research project to the National Science Centre, the National Centre for Research and Development, or another research funding institution;
- experience in presenting research results at national or international conferences,
- minimum 2 years of experience in scientific work abroad after obtaining a doctorate,
- minimum 2 years of experience in scientific work as a postdoctoral researcher,
- experience in international projects related to the disciplines of Earth Sciences or Agriculture and Horticulture,
- very good knowledge and use of the R language,
- very good knowledge of GIS software: QGIS or ArcGIS,
- experience in Big Data processing,
- good knowledge of the use of statistical methods in soil science research,
- experience in modelling soil health and properties,
- knowledge of machine learning techniques for mapping soil properties, function indicators, risks and ecosystem services,
- knowledge of English at a level sufficient to participate in international projects (Horizon Europe),
- knowledge of remote sensing techniques and the use of satellite imagery,
- knowledge and ability to use the Google Earth Engine platform,
Preferred requirements :
- international research internship,
- basic knowledge of Python,
- experience in preparing applications for international projects,
- database management skills.

Career development prospects:
- An adjunct may be promoted to the position of professor at the Institute after meeting the following conditions:
- in the case of an adjunct with a postdoctoral degree or a doctorate in agricultural, biological, chemical, economic or related sciences:
- willingness to undertake research issues justified by the needs of the Institute.
- management of a research project or equivalent undertaking financed from external funds.
- domestic or foreign research internship, or comparable cooperation with a foreign research institution, documented by joint projects and/or scientific achievements.
- achievements in the education of scientific staff – acting as a supervisor in at least one doctoral programme.
- achievements in scientific work to date, including authorship or co-authorship of scientific publications with a total value of at least 300 points based on the assessment according to the list of journals from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
- activity in scientific life and organisational skills (reviews of doctoral dissertations and habilitation procedures, publications and/or research projects, organisation of and participation in conferences, organisation of workshops, courses, etc.).
- In the case of an adjunct with a doctoral degree:
- demonstration of outstanding scientific achievements in the field represented, with a total value of at least 300 points based on the assessment according to the list and scoring of journals from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education list;
- acting as an assistant supervisor in at least one doctoral thesis;
- having recognised organisational achievements in the implementation and dissemination of scientific research results (e.g. obtaining a patent or documented implementation);
- qualifications are assessed by the Scientific Council on the basis of the opinions of two reviewers, including one from outside the Institute.
- in the case of an adjunct with a postdoctoral degree or a doctorate in agricultural, biological, chemical, economic or related sciences:
- An adjunct may be promoted to the position of professor after meeting the following conditions:
- academic title of professor in the field of agricultural, biological, chemical or economic sciences;
- willingness to undertake research issues justified by the needs of the Institute;
- achievements in previous scientific work, including authorship or co-authorship of scientific publications with a total value of at least 450 points based on an assessment according to the list of journals from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education;
- participation in the education of scientific staff – acting as a supervisor in at least two doctoral programmes, reviewing doctoral dissertations and participating in habilitation and professorship proceedings.
Remuneration of an employee employed as an adjunct:
- PLN 5,840.00 to PLN 11,680.00 per month

The results will be announced no later than two weeks after the end of the competition.
The Institute may employ the successful candidate from the first day of the month following the announcement of the competition results. - Purposes of processing and legal basis for data processing
- Your personal data within the scope specified in labour law (Article 221of the Labour Code and § 1 of the Regulation of the Minister of Labour and Social Policy of 28 May1996 on the scope of documentation kept by employers in matters related to the employment relationship and the manner of keeping employee personal files) will be processed by the Personal Data Controller on the basis of Article 6(1)(b) of the Regulation for the purpose of conducting the recruitment process for the position of President of the Company.
- Article 6(1)(c) of the Regulation, processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject — the Act of 16 December 2016 on the principles of state property management. The source of personal data will be information and documents provided by the data subject.
- With regard to data not required by law, the legal basis for processing will be your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the Regulation). Consent may be withdrawn at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to its withdrawal.
- Period of personal data processing – personal data will be processed until the end of the recruitment process.
- Data recipients – your data may be accessed by authorised employees of the Controller – members of the selection committee.
- Rights related to data processing – you have the right to access your data, request its rectification, erasure or restriction of processing, object to processing, and transfer your data in the cases specified in the Regulation.
- Consent to the processing of personal data may be withdrawn at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of the processing carried out prior to its withdrawal.
- If you consider that the processing of personal data violates the provisions of the Regulation, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the President of the Personal Data Protection Office.
- Information on automated decision-making and profiling – The Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – National Research Institute in Puławy will not use your data for automated decision-making and profiling.
- Providing personal data contained in the application for the position is voluntary, but it is a condition for entering the recruitment process. The personal data obtained will not be transferred to a third country/international organisation.
