Department’s Research Profile:

  1. Research on weed ecology and the extent to which weeds are endangered by field crops;
  2. Improving weed control methods and herbicide evaluation;
  3. Research on herbicide conversions in arable crops and the soil environment and water;
  4. Developing and testing energy-efficient tillage and the impact of fertilization systems on the soil environment and plants;
  5. Studies on the need for micronutrient fertilization taking into account the criteria of environment conservation;
  6. Developing methods to maintain the production capacity of soils temporarily excluded from agricultural use;
  7. Conducting field experiments, mainly in the field of tillage and fertilization techniques, pesticide assessment and management of fallow land for other scientific units of the Institute and for external orders;
  8. Conducting greenhouse experiments and model tests related to the evaluation of effectiveness of plant protection products and the assessment of the impact of environmental factors on the effectiveness of these products;
  9. Providing technical service of microplots and the greenhouse.

Offer

  1. The Department operates in accordance with Good Experimental Practice System, as required by the Plant Protection Act. The organization conducts research on the basis of the “Authorisation to conduct research on the effectiveness of herbicides, fungicides, growth regulators and adjuvants” issued by the Chief Inspector of Plant Protection and Seed Production.
  2. Studies conducted in controlled conditions focus on the effectiveness of pesticides and the assessment of their environmental impact (greenhouses, climate chambers), residues testing, dynamics of decomposition and migration of pesticides in the soil profile.
  3. Organisation of apprenticeships and internships (professional and scientific).
  4. Organisation of conferences, seminars and training courses.

Research Equipment

  1. Equipment for advanced scientific research and expertise: GC/EC/MS, HPLC/UV chromatography, AAS, LAI, fluorescence spectrophotometer.
  2. Greenhouses, climate chambers, sprinkler chamber, lysimeters and soil core samplers for dedicated biological and model tests and certified equipment for pesticide application (field and laboratory tests).
