Anti-resistance strategy in weed management as an important factor of the sustainable development of agroecosystem (BioHerOd)

Anti-resistance strategy in weed management as an important factor of the sustainable development of agroecosystem
The conservation of biodiversity is a strategic challenge in the sustainable development of agricultural ecosystems. The presence of in a population herbicide resistant biotypes of weed flora in a crop field strongly impacts the species composition of such population and reduces biodiversity in the fields.

The main objective of the project Anti-resistance strategy in weed management as an important factor of the sustainable development of agro-ecosystem is the development, dissemination and preparation for implementation of a sustainable weed management strategy to prevent the occurrence of biotypes of weeds resistant to herbicides in Poland and eliminate these biotypes.

Within the framework of the project, 4 species of weeds, which have already developed herbicide resistance in Poland were selected: Apera spica-venti, Alopecurus myosuroides, Papaver rhoeas, Centaurea cyanus.

Planned results include: assessment of current state of weed resistance in Poland, determination of resistance mechanisms based on molecular analyses, determination of the epidemiology of the spread of resistant biotypes, an estimation of financial losses resulting from occurrence of herbicide resistance in field, development of holistic strategies aimed at reducing the population of resistant biotypes and dissemination of results and preparation for their implementation.
